Derrick Rose will miss the rest of the season with a torn
meniscus.
The New York Knicks acquired Rose from the Chicago Bulls last
offseason. Rose finishes the season averaging 18.0 points, 3.8 rebounds and 4.4
assists in 64 games. Rose had a PER of 17.1, which is highest total since his
last All-Star season in 11-12 when he had a mark of 23.0.
For Rose, it's another
setback in a career full of them. Rose's first major injury came when he tore
his ACL in his left knee during the 2012 playoffs. Rose then tore his right
meniscus following his first come back and played only 10 games in the 2013-'14
sesaon. He had another more minor surgery on his right knee meniscus in
2015. This latest setback will be his fourth knee operation.
The recovery period for his
latest injury is estimated at six to eight weeks, per AdrianWojnarowski of The Vertical.
Rose,
who has publicly said he'd like to remain in New York, has had an up and down
season with the Knicks. He struggled to adapt to the triangle offense, at
times calling his offensive production "random." The ever-present
drama surrounding the Knicks likely didn't help, either.
